卓甚么（吴大维 饰）、刘大庆（姜武 饰）和叶达开（谭耀文 饰）在机缘巧合之下进入了同一家广告公司工作，又在误打误撞之中成为了住在同一屋檐下的室友。个性迥异的三个大男人在日常柴米油盐的生活中常常会有数不尽的碰撞和摩擦，尤其是刘大庆和叶达开两个人，经常发生大大小小的矛盾和误会。 某一天，一个名叫贾萍（舒淇 饰）的女人带着一个孩子登门拜访，想找一个名叫舒样的男人，这个男人正是孩子的父亲，然而此刻舒洋早已经不见了踪迹，可是贾萍并不死心，一定要等他回来。就这样，贾萍带着孩子加入了这个古怪的大家庭之中，给这幢本来就十分拥挤的房子带来了更多的麻烦和欢笑。。The subtitle of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet’s first feature, from 1965, “Only Violence Helps Where Violence Reigns,” suggests the fierce political program evoked by their rigorous aesthetic. The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely.
